Orkas

Open-source, local-first desktop app where a Commander agent turns goals into to-dos and coordinates a team of AI agents.

Freemium

What is Orkas?

Orkas is an open-source, local-first desktop AI client built around a team of agents rather than a single chat. You describe a goal in a task, and the Commander agent splits it into to-dos, does general work itself and passes the remainder to 16 built-in specialist agents or to outside coding agents such as Hermes-Agent, OpenClaw, OpenCode, Codex and Claude Code. Each project holds its goals, memory and files in one place, while auto-advance and scheduled automations return finished deliverables for review. Connectors link outside services and, out of the box, Orkas pauses to ask before it sends, posts or deletes anything. Chats run on Orkas built-in models using credits, or on your own keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and others, with that traffic going straight to the provider. Agents, chat history and files stay on your machine by default. The Free plan has core features and 500 bonus credits; Lite, Pro and Max add monthly credits, sync and collaboration, and Enterprise is by inquiry.

Use cases

  • Break a goal into to-dos handled by agents
  • Run scheduled automations that return deliverables
  • Draft research reports and marketing content
  • Orchestrate Claude Code and Codex from one app
  • Build small interactive apps from prompts
  • Answer questions over documents with citations
  • Generate monthly client reports

Who it's for

  • Knowledge workers
  • Small teams
  • Developers
  • Marketers

Why use Orkas

  • Delegation is built in: the Commander splits a goal into to-dos and picks the right agent for each.
  • Your data stays local by default, and bring-your-own-key model calls go directly to the provider instead of through Orkas.
  • You can start free: the Free plan includes core features and 500 bonus credits, with no API key needed.
  • Existing coding agents plug in, so Claude Code or Codex can work alongside the built-in agents.
  • Automations and projects return finished work for review, so you check outputs rather than steering each step.

How to get started with Orkas

  1. Install the Orkas desktop app and sign in, or build the open-source edition and use your own keys.
  2. Start a new task, state the outcome you are after, and list the source material and constraints.
  3. Commander turns the goal into to-dos and assigns them to built-in agents, skills or connected coding agents.
  4. Answer any decision or permission requests while work continues, and use Stop if the direction is wrong.
  5. Review the output, request a focused revision, or set up an automation to repeat the work on a schedule.

Orkas limitations

  • Auto-advance and automations only run while the computer is awake and Orkas is open
  • Free accounts have no multi-device sync, web-app publishing or monthly credits
  • Free accounts can own up to 3 shared projects with 100 MB of cloud storage
  • Monthly credits renew with each billing period, and any left over do not carry forward
  • Official builds cover macOS and Windows; Linux needs a source build, which lacks project collaboration
