NeMo

NVIDIA's open-source framework for building and training speech AI models such as ASR, TTS and speaker diarization.

Open source

What is NeMo?

NVIDIA NeMo Speech is an Apache-2.0 framework for researchers and developers working with speech AI. Its scope covers automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech, speaker recognition and diarization, speech translation and related topics, and it ships with open-weight checkpoints published on Hugging Face. Recent releases mentioned in the repository include the Parakeet and Nemotron ASR models, with streaming and offline modes, and the MagpieTTS speech synthesis model covering a dozen languages. NeMo is distributed as Python code and in NGC containers, and the project says version 3.0 is out. It is a developer toolkit, not a consumer application, so using it involves training or running models yourself, ideally on NVIDIA GPUs.

Use cases

  • Train a speech recognition model
  • Run streaming speech-to-text
  • Synthesize speech with TTS models
  • Identify speakers in recordings
  • Fine-tune open-weight speech checkpoints

Who it's for

  • ML researchers
  • Speech engineers
  • AI developers
  • Enterprise AI teams

Why use NeMo

  • Provides ready checkpoints for speech tasks so you do not start training from scratch.
  • Covers ASR, TTS and diarization in one framework.
  • Backed by NVIDIA, with container releases for reproducible environments.
  • Open source, so teams can inspect and adapt the code.

NeMo features

  • Automatic speech recognition models
  • Text-to-speech models
  • Speaker recognition and diarization
  • Speech translation
  • Open-weight checkpoints on Hugging Face
  • NGC container releases
  • Apache-2.0 license

How to get started with NeMo

  1. Read the NeMo Speech documentation and choose a task such as ASR or TTS.
  2. Install the package or pull the NGC container.
  3. Download an open-weight checkpoint from the Hugging Face collection.
  4. Run inference on your audio or text, or fine-tune on your own data.
  5. Deploy the resulting model in your application.

NeMo limitations

  • Developer toolkit that needs ML expertise
  • Intended mainly for NVIDIA GPU environments

NeMo pricing

NeMo is open source, so you can use and self-host it for free.
