What is JetBrains Air?

JetBrains Air is an agentic development environment that lets you run coding agents such as Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, Copilot and OpenCode in one place, plus any agent that connects through the Agent Client Protocol. You can start work from a JetBrains IDE, a browser app called Air Teams, or the command line, and agents can run in cloud environments so tasks are not tied to one machine. Each session shows unread updates, changed files and outgoing commits, and you open diffs to leave line comments the agent then acts on. Teams get shared projects, event-triggered automations, MCP server management, access policies and usage analytics. AI work is metered in AI credits, billed at the model provider's rate, and you can bring your own subscription or API keys instead. Organizations choose between a free Basic plan, a Business plan at $20 per seat per month, and an Enterprise plan on request.

Use cases

  • Run coding agents in parallel
  • Review agent diffs with line comments
  • Automate code review on new pull requests
  • Triage newly created issues
  • Update docs after merges to main
  • Govern AI access across an engineering org

Who it's for

  • Software engineers
  • Engineering teams
  • Engineering managers
  • JetBrains IDE users

Why use JetBrains Air

  • Keeps several coding agents and their changes visible in one workspace instead of juggling separate tools.
  • Works with agents and accounts you already pay for, so you can bring your own subscription or API key.
  • Lets reviewers comment on exact lines of an agent's diff and have the agent act on them.
  • Cloud-run tasks and automations continue without tying up a laptop.
  • Admins can set AI policies, model access and credit limits for teams, then track usage with analytics.

JetBrains Air features

  • Connects Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, Copilot and OpenCode
  • Any ACP-compatible agent can be added from the agent registry
  • Parallel sessions with unread updates, changed files and outgoing commits
  • Diff review with comments on specific lines
  • Automations triggered by merges, new PRs, pushed commits or new issues
  • Dedicated cloud environments with configurable VM size and internet access
  • Shared MCP servers configured once for a whole team
  • Supply your own API keys from providers such as Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI or Anthropic
  • Air Context semantic indexing so agents skip scanning the full codebase
  • Spending limits and usage analytics per team or person

How to get started with JetBrains Air

  1. An organization admin signs in to JetBrains Console, adds members, buys AI credits and, on paid plans, AI seats, then turns on AI access.
  2. Each user opens Air in a JetBrains IDE, in the Air Teams browser app, or through the command-line gateway and connects an agent with one click.
  3. You give a task to one or more agents, which run locally or in a cloud environment while you keep other sessions open.
  4. Review the changes in context, validate them with IDE tools and leave line comments for the agent to address.
  5. Set up automations for events such as a PR being created or a merge to main, and watch credit spend per automation.

JetBrains Air limitations

  • Business and Enterprise need a paid AI seat for every user with AI access
  • Usage is charged separately in AI credits on every plan
  • Docker tasks cannot use a Claude subscription
  • Hybrid deployments, audit logs and workspaces on Enterprise are listed as coming soon
  • The plan applies to the whole organization, so users cannot be split across plans

JetBrains Air FAQ

How much does JetBrains Air cost?

The documentation lists three organization plans: Basic is Free, Business is $20 per seat per month, and Enterprise is available on request. Actual AI usage is charged separately in AI credits on every plan.

Is there a free plan for JetBrains Air?

Yes. The Basic plan is free and covers user management, centralized licensing and billing, AI spending limits and AI analytics. Users with AI access can use AI features within their AI credit limit.

What plans does JetBrains Air have?

Basic (Free), Business ($20 per seat per month) and Enterprise (on request). Business adds AI policies, bring-your-own-key providers, model management, ACP-compatible agents, MCP servers and an analytics API. Enterprise lists hybrid deployments, audit logs and priority support as coming soon.

What are AI credits in JetBrains Air?

An AI credit is the single unit Air uses to meter agent work. LLM use costs 1 AI credit per 1 USD spent on the provider side. Regular credits expire after 12 months, and requests sent to your own provider key do not consume credits.

Which coding agents work with JetBrains Air?

Claude Agent, Codex, Junie, Copilot and OpenCode are named on the product page, and any agent that supports the Agent Client Protocol can be connected. Air can detect compatible agents on your machine and add others from its registry.

What are alternatives to JetBrains Air?

Related tools for running coding agents include Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and Windsurf. Air differs by acting as a shared workspace that hosts several third-party agents rather than a single assistant.
