BrowserOS
Free, open-source Chromium browser with built-in AI agents and an MCP server, so agents like Claude Code or Codex can browse as you.
What is BrowserOS?
BrowserOS is an open-source browser with AI agents built in. You describe a web task in plain language, and the agent clicks, types and navigates inside the browser, using the models you choose, from Claude, Gemini and OpenAI to local models through Ollama and LM Studio. The newer BrowserOS neo flips the idea: it is a separate browser that your own agents, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or VS Code, drive over MCP using your imported Chrome logins, with a dashboard showing each agent at work and replays of every session. Everything runs on your machine, with history, screenshots and replays stored as local files. The software is free to use under the AGPL-3.0 license, you supply keys for the AI provider of your choice, and enterprises can email the team about rollout and support. It runs on macOS and Windows, and BrowserOS also lists Linux.
Use cases
- Automate multi-step web tasks in plain language
- Let coding agents use a logged-in browser
- Run several browser agents in parallel
- Schedule recurring browser workflows
- Replay agent sessions to find mistakes
- Connect Gmail, Slack and Notion through MCP
Who it's for
Why use BrowserOS
- Free and open source, so the agent code can be inspected and there is no license to buy.
- Browsing data, replays and settings stay on your machine instead of a vendor dashboard.
- Agents work in their own tabs, so they do not touch the tabs you are using.
- Model choice stays with you, whether a cloud provider or a local model.
- Replays and action logs make it easier to check what an agent did and coach it next time.
BrowserOS features
- Built-in AI agent that browses, clicks and types from a prompt
- Bring your own model keys, including local models via Ollama and LM Studio
- Built-in MCP server for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI
- One-click import of logins from Chrome
- Compact page snapshots and batched actions to reduce tokens
- Parallel agents in isolated tabs with a cockpit dashboard
- Scrubbable video replay of every agent session
- 40+ app integrations via MCP
- Scheduled tasks and workflows with loops and conditions
- Session data stored locally on your disk
BrowserOS integrations
How to get started with BrowserOS
- Download BrowserOS or BrowserOS neo for your operating system, or install it with Homebrew on macOS.
- Open it once and import your logins from Chrome in one click.
- Pick an AI provider and add your own key, or connect an agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor over MCP.
- Describe a web task and watch the agent work in its own tabs.
- Replay the saved session video to verify the result.
BrowserOS limitations
- You supply and pay for your own AI provider keys
- BrowserOS neo downloads are listed for macOS and Windows only
- Per-agent profile isolation is still on the roadmap
- AGPL-3.0 licensing may matter for companies embedding the code
