MySpec

Spec-driven development platform that interviews you about an idea and writes a four-file spec bundle for AI coding agents.

What is MySpec?

MySpec is an AI platform for spec-driven development. You paste in an idea, a Slack thread or a voice note, and an analyst agent extracts the shape of the problem. A structured interview of roughly 5 to 15 questions then clarifies scope, users, flows and edge cases before anything is written. The result is a four-file markdown bundle: constitution.md for locked project rules, requirements.md with EARS-style acceptance criteria, solution.md with Mermaid diagrams, and tasks.md with the plan. You refine the files in chat, download them as a ZIP into a .specs folder, and point Cursor or Claude Code at that folder, or use the MySpec MCP server to sync in both directions. Brownfield workflows, OpenSpec-compatible changes and a Spec Kit-compatible greenfield flow are listed as shipped. The service is in open beta with a free tier and no credit card, and plan limits cover members, projects, spec files, AI usage, public links and storage.

Use cases

  • Turn a rough idea into a written spec
  • Generate requirements with acceptance criteria
  • Hand specs to Cursor or Claude Code
  • Spec changes to an existing codebase
  • Surface edge cases before coding
  • Share specs with a team

Who it's for

  • Software engineers
  • Technical founders
  • Engineering leads
  • Architects

Why use MySpec

  • An interview step asks about scope and edge cases before code, so gaps show up while they are cheap to fix.
  • The same four files travel with every agent prompt, which stops requirements from drifting over a long chat.
  • Exporting a ZIP or using the MCP server fits tools you may already use, such as Cursor and Claude Code.
  • A usage page shows monthly AI activity and organization limits, and owners are notified before limits are reached.

MySpec features

  • Structured interview of about 5 to 15 questions
  • Four-file bundle: constitution, requirements, solution and tasks
  • EARS-style acceptance criteria
  • Mermaid diagrams rendered live in the solution file
  • Chat-based refinement that keeps the files consistent
  • ZIP export for a .specs folder
  • HTTP MCP server at mcp.myspec.dev for agents
  • Brownfield workflows and OpenSpec-compatible changes
  • Organizations, invitations and personal API tokens
  • Public share links

MySpec integrations

  • Cursor
  • Claude Code
  • OpenSpec
  • Spec Kit

How to get started with MySpec

  1. Describe the idea by pasting a paragraph, Slack thread or voice note.
  2. Answer the interview, a structured back-and-forth of about 5 to 15 questions on scope, users, flows and edge cases.
  3. Review the four markdown files and refine them in chat while the agents keep them coherent.
  4. Export the bundle as a ZIP into .specs, or connect the MySpec MCP server so your coding agent reads it directly.

MySpec limitations

  • The service is in open beta and may change or be limited without notice
  • Plan limits apply to members, projects, spec files, AI usage, links and storage
  • Generated output can be inaccurate and needs review before use
  • Paid plan prices are not published; check the official pricing page

MySpec pricing

Spec-driven AI coding tool that turns prompts into requirements, designs and tasks, with a free tier and credit-based paid plans.

MySpec FAQ

Is MySpec free?

The roadmap lists an open beta with a free tier and no credit card required. The terms note that paid plans, if offered, are billed in advance and that pricing may change during beta.

What are the four spec files?

constitution.md holds locked project rules, requirements.md holds user stories and acceptance criteria, solution.md describes the design with Mermaid diagrams, and tasks.md lays out the build plan.

Does MySpec have an MCP server or API?

Yes. An HTTP MCP server runs at mcp.myspec.dev for hosted agents, and personal API tokens support unattended MCP access. The page also mentions an @myspec/mcp-server package.

Can MySpec work on an existing codebase?

Yes. Brownfield workflows produce a MySpec proposal and requirements delta, and OpenSpec-compatible changes are supported. A Spec Kit-compatible greenfield flow covers new projects.

What limits apply to MySpec plans?

Limits are set per organization and can cover members, projects, spec files, monthly and weekly AI usage, public links and storage. Owners and admins get warnings as limits near.

What are alternatives to MySpec?

Alternatives include GitHub Spec Kit, OpenSpec, Kiro and Traycer, which also build specs before code. Compare interview depth, export formats and agent integration.
