Stable Audio

Stability AI's music and sound generator with a multi-track deck, audio-to-audio editing, a DAW plugin and an API, billed in credits.

What is Stable Audio?

Stable Audio is Stability AI's tool for generating and editing music and sound effects from text prompts. In the web app you describe the music you want and it lands on a tape-style deck, either as one full mix or as separate tracks (multi-track mode, marked experimental) that you can mute, solo, regenerate, extend or re-record in a chosen section. A session holds up to four active tracks, and a producer-style chat panel can add or redo parts from plain-language requests. Mixing, tape edits such as reverse, stutter and freeze, effects, bouncing and export cost nothing; credits are charged only when the model generates new audio. Starting a full-mix session costs 4 credits and a multi-track session 6. Length options reach six minutes. Stable Audio 3.0 is also available as a plugin for DAWs such as Ableton, Logic and Pro Tools, and through Stability's API. The vendor does not show subscription prices in the page text, so check the official pricing page for current plans.

How to get started with Stable Audio

  1. Type a description of the music with genre, instruments, tempo and mood, and choose Full Mix or Multi-Track.
  2. Pick a length and press start to generate the session on the deck.
  3. Adjust faders, pan, mute and solo, or ask the chat producer for changes.
  4. Add, regenerate, replace or extend tracks, using the free tape edits and effects where you can.
  5. Bounce tracks if you hit the 4-track limit, then export the mix or share a session link.

Stable Audio limitations

  • A session holds a maximum of 4 active tracks until you bounce tracks together
  • Multi-track mode and stem export are labelled experimental
  • Multi-track mode uses an agent that can make arrangement choices you did not ask for
  • Attached audio only sets tempo and key; it is not used in the generated sound
