OpenFang

Open-source Agent Operating System in Rust that runs scheduled autonomous agents called Hands from a single binary

Open source

What is OpenFang?

OpenFang is an open-source agent operating system written in Rust and shipped as one binary for macOS, Linux and Windows. Instead of waiting for chat prompts, its seven built-in Hands run on schedules, build knowledge graphs and report results to a dashboard. The Hands cover video clipping, lead generation, target monitoring, forecasting, research, X account management and browser automation. Around them sit 30 pre-built agents, 38 native tools plus an MCP client and server, 40 channel adapters such as Telegram, Discord, Slack and WhatsApp, and 26 LLM providers. Tool code runs inside a WASM sandbox, and the project lists 16 security systems including Ed25519 manifest signing and a Merkle audit trail. Memory is stored in SQLite with vector embeddings, and a Tauri 2.0 desktop app provides a native dashboard. It is free under the MIT license, so there are no pricing plans, and you install it with a curl command or a PowerShell script.

Use cases

  • Run scheduled autonomous agents on your own machine
  • Generate and score leads on a daily schedule
  • Monitor targets with change and sentiment alerts
  • Cut long videos into short clips with captions
  • Connect one agent to Telegram, Slack and Discord
  • Expose agent tools to other agents over MCP

Who it's for

  • Agent developers
  • Self-hosters
  • Rust developers
  • Automation builders

Why use OpenFang

  • Agents keep working on a schedule and report to a dashboard, rather than waiting for you to type.
  • A single compiled binary means few moving parts to install and update on your own hardware.
  • Sandboxed tool execution and an audit trail make long-running agents easier to trust.
  • One agent can answer on dozens of messaging platforms with per-channel rules.
  • MIT licensing allows free use and modification without a subscription.

OpenFang features

  • Seven autonomous Hands: Clip, Lead, Collector, Predictor, Researcher, Twitter and Browser
  • 30 pre-built agents with four performance tiers
  • 38 built-in tools plus Model Context Protocol client and server
  • 40 channel adapters with per-channel model overrides and rate limits
  • WASM sandbox with fuel and epoch metering
  • Ed25519 manifest signing, taint tracking and a Merkle audit trail
  • SQLite memory with vector embeddings and automatic compaction
  • MCP, Google A2A and the OpenFang P2P protocol
  • Tauri 2.0 desktop app with system tray and global shortcuts
  • Support for 26 LLM providers including Anthropic, Gemini, Groq and DeepSeek

How to get started with OpenFang

  1. Install OpenFang with the curl script on macOS or Linux, or the PowerShell installer on Windows.
  2. Run openfang init and add credentials for one of the supported LLM providers.
  3. Activate a Hand or spawn one of the pre-built agents with a single command.
  4. Connect channels such as Telegram or Slack and optional MCP servers.
  5. Check the dashboard in the browser or the Tauri desktop app for scheduled results.

OpenFang limitations

  • Windows installer does not support 32-bit systems
  • You choose and pay for your own LLM provider access
  • Provider and channel coverage claims come from the project's own comparison

OpenFang pricing
