OpenClacky

MIT-licensed AI agent platform with a web UI, CLI, memory, evolving Skills and browser automation that runs on your own model key.

Open source

What is OpenClacky?

OpenClacky is an open-source AI agent that you run locally and point at the model of your choice. It ships a browser UI where each task gets its own session and runs in parallel, plus a terminal client that you start by typing openclacky, with three permission levels, diff previews before writes and a .clacky rules file loaded per project. Skills are installable workflows invoked with slash commands, and after each task OpenClacky can write a new Skill or improve one you created, with that auto-evolution switchable in settings. Long-term memory is stored as local markdown files and recalled when a topic returns, and the feature list also covers scheduled tasks, browser automation and chat-app integrations. The client is free forever: you can bring your own key and pay model providers directly, or use OpenClacky AI Keys, a single balance billed per token at provider rates for models such as DeepSeek, GLM and Kimi. Enterprise engagements are quoted separately. The client runs on macOS, Linux and Windows.

Use cases

  • Run a personal AI agent on your own model key
  • Automate coding tasks from the terminal
  • Turn repeated workflows into reusable Skills
  • Schedule recurring agent tasks
  • Automate a browser with an agent
  • Extract tasks from meeting notes and documents

Who it's for

  • Developers
  • Power users
  • Small teams
  • Skill creators

Why use OpenClacky

  • Costs nothing for the client itself, and the MIT license means personal and commercial use need no extra license.
  • Keeps API keys on your device under BYOK, with requests going straight from your machine to the provider.
  • Builds up reusable Skills and memory over time, so repeated work needs less explanation.
  • Lets you choose between a visual web UI and a lightweight terminal client sharing the same configuration.
  • Offers a single balance for several models through AI Keys when you prefer consolidated billing.

How to get started with OpenClacky

  1. Download the client for macOS, Linux or Windows, or install the CLI and run openclacky in a project folder.
  2. Add your own OpenAI-compatible API key, or top up an AI Keys balance for supported models.
  3. Give the agent a task in the web UI or the terminal, choosing a permission level and optional skills.
  4. Review diffs and tool calls, run tasks in parallel sessions and let memory capture key decisions.
  5. Install community Skills with /skill-add or let OpenClacky turn a repeated workflow into a new one.

OpenClacky limitations

  • You must supply a model key or use AI Keys for billing, since no model is bundled
  • BYOK users handle their own provider accounts, rate limits and regional access
  • Skill auto-evolution only changes Skills you created, not built-in ones
  • Reasoning models can return empty output if max_tokens is set too low

OpenClacky FAQ

Is OpenClacky free?

Yes. The client is MIT licensed and free forever, with every feature and no usage caps. You only pay your model providers, or use AI Keys billed at the same per-token rate.

How much do OpenClacky AI Keys cost?

AI Keys are billed per token on a single balance. For example, the off-peak DeepSeek flash alias lists $0.0001575 per 1,000 input tokens, and the pricing docs say prices include a 5% service fee.

What plans does OpenClacky have?

Three options: the free client with your own key, AI Keys billed per token, and enterprise plans with custom engagements for teams building branded products.

Does OpenClacky send my API key to its servers?

Under BYOK, no. Keys are stored only on the local client, and requests go from your device straight to the provider without passing through OpenClacky servers.

Can I use OpenClacky commercially?

Yes. The MIT license permits personal and commercial use without additional licensing. Teams building branded products on top of it should consult the enterprise plan.

What are alternatives to OpenClacky?

Alternatives include Claude Code, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Aider and Goose, which are agents that run on your machine with different model and skill approaches.
