What is LochBot?

LochBot is a free tool for people building chatbots and other LLM-powered features who want to test a system prompt for prompt injection weaknesses. You paste your system prompt into the page and click Analyze. It then compares the text with 31 known attack patterns, which fall into seven groups: role play jailbreaks, encoding attacks, prompt leaking, direct injection, context manipulation, delimiter attacks and data extraction. Each failed test is rated critical, high, medium or low, and the results roll up into a 0 to 100 security score with an A to F letter grade, plus a specific fix suggestion you can add to the prompt. The report can be exported as JSON for documentation or compliance records. The analysis is client-side pattern matching in your browser, so your prompt is never sent anywhere. It does not run attacks against a real model, so it is a structural first pass and not a replacement for red-team testing. LochBot is free, and the site lists no paid plans.

Use cases

  • Check a system prompt for injection weaknesses
  • Score prompt security before launch
  • Compare the security of two prompt designs
  • Get fix suggestions for a vulnerable prompt
  • Export a prompt security report as JSON
  • Train a team on prompt injection defense

Who it's for

  • Developers
  • Security engineers
  • Product teams
  • AI security researchers

Why use LochBot

  • Your system prompt never leaves your browser, which matters when the prompt contains internal rules.
  • A score and grade make it easy to see how defensible a prompt is and to track improvements.
  • Each failed check comes with wording you can paste into the prompt.
  • Free to use with no account, so it fits into a quick pre-deployment review.
  • The JSON export gives you a record for documentation or compliance reporting.

LochBot features

  • Analysis against 31 prompt injection attack patterns
  • Seven attack categories from direct injection to prompt leaking
  • 0 to 100 security score with an A to F grade
  • Severity ratings of critical, high, medium and low
  • A specific fix suggestion for every failed test
  • JSON export of the full vulnerability report
  • Runs entirely in the browser with no API calls or data storage
  • Security guides and answers on prompt injection, XSS, CSP and HTTP headers

How to get started with LochBot

  1. Open the LochBot scanner page.
  2. Paste your chatbot's system prompt into the text area.
  3. Click Analyze to run the 31 checks locally in your browser.
  4. Review the score, grade and failed tests by category and severity.
  5. Apply the suggested fixes, re-run the check, and export the report as JSON if you need a record.

LochBot limitations

  • It uses pattern matching and does not test your prompt against a real AI model
  • A high score does not guarantee safety against new attacks, and a low score may still work with a well-aligned model
  • It is a first-pass structural check, not a substitute for red-team testing

LochBot FAQ

Is LochBot free?

Yes. The site calls it a free tool, and it lists no plans or prices. The pricing page on the site returns a not-found message.

Does LochBot send my prompt anywhere?

No. The analysis runs in your browser using local JavaScript pattern matching, with no API calls, server-side processing or data storage. The source code is on GitHub so you can check this.

Does LochBot test my prompt against a real model?

No. It checks whether your prompt contains defensive language and structure, such as XML delimiters, immutability statements and refusal examples. Red-team testing against a running model is still needed.

What does the score mean?

The score runs from 0 to 100 and maps to grades A through F. Failed tests are weighted by severity, so critical and high issues lower the score more than medium and low ones.

Can I export the results?

Yes. After analysis you can export the score, grade and results for each of the 31 patterns as a JSON file.

What are alternatives to LochBot?

For deeper testing, alternatives include red-team and evaluation tools such as Promptfoo, Garak and PyRIT, which send real attack inputs to a model instead of checking the prompt text.
