Composio

Developer platform with SDKs, CLI and MCP that gives AI agents 1000+ pre-authenticated app toolkits and per-user sessions.

What is Composio?

Composio is infrastructure for developers who want AI agents to take actions in other apps without hand-building each integration. You create a session for a user, call session.tools() to get that user's toolkits, and pass them to your agent framework; Composio handles per-user authentication, triggers, a sandboxed workbench, tool search and context management. Alternatively, a session exposes an MCP URL and headers that any MCP-compatible client, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor or OpenAI Agents, can use without a provider package. TypeScript and Python SDKs and a CLI are available, and the open-source monorepo is MIT licensed. Some tools, such as search APIs and code sandboxes, are billed as premium tools at the provider's rate plus a 5% platform fee. Documentation names three plans: Hobby, with up to $2 a month of premium tool usage, Pro, which adds a $29 monthly usage credit, and Enterprise. Plan prices are not published.

Use cases

  • Connect agents to third-party apps
  • Handle per-user OAuth for agent tools
  • Expose app tools to MCP clients
  • Trigger agents on app events
  • Run agent code in a sandboxed workbench
  • Search and select tools at run time
  • Add web search tools to an agent

Who it's for

  • AI developers
  • Agent builders
  • Platform engineers

Why use Composio

  • One SDK replaces separate OAuth and API clients for each app an agent needs to reach.
  • Per-user sessions keep each end user's connections and permissions apart.
  • The same toolkits are available natively in code or through MCP, so they fit most agent clients.
  • Rate limit headers and Retry-After values make throttling predictable to handle.

Composio features

  • 1000+ pre-authenticated toolkits
  • Sessions that scope tools and credentials per user
  • Triggers for events from connected apps
  • Sandboxed workbench for running code
  • Tool search and context management
  • Python and TypeScript SDKs plus a CLI
  • MCP URL and headers for any MCP-compatible client
  • Premium tools for search, code execution and scraping
  • Read-only and restricted sessions using tags and allowlists

Composio integrations

  • OpenAI Agents
  • Claude Agent SDK
  • Claude Desktop
  • Cursor
  • Perplexity
  • Exa
  • SerpAPI
  • E2B

How to get started with Composio

  1. Install the Python or TypeScript SDK and set your Composio API key.
  2. Create a session for a user ID, for example composio.create with a user id.
  3. Fetch the session's tools and pass them to your agent or LLM framework.
  4. Or point an MCP client at session.mcp.url with the session headers.
  5. Move to production with isolated environments, real user identity and trigger delivery.

Composio limitations

  • Developer-oriented: you write code to integrate it
  • Premium tools carry a 5% platform fee on the provider's price
  • Provider quotas, such as Google API limits, apply separately from Composio's own limits
  • API rate limit is 2,000 requests per minute on Hobby and 10,000 on Pro
