What is Neurox?

Neurox is a self-hosted monitoring and reporting platform for GPU infrastructure running AI workloads. You install it with Helm on a Kubernetes cluster, including EKS, GKE, AKS or on-prem, and its agent discovers GPU hardware automatically. Dashboards show utilization, workloads, queued and completed jobs, and hardware health and energy use for individual GPUs. A Neurox Control portal can watch multiple clusters across clouds at once, and cost reports roll up spend by business unit, project, team, owner or GPU type for FinOps. Neurox is not open source, and only NVIDIA GPUs are supported. It is free for monitoring up to 64 GPUs, which the vendor says covers personal, academic and light commercial use, and offers source-available licensing for enterprise customers. A scheduler, health alarms and federated multi-cloud features are listed as upcoming.

Use cases

  • Monitor GPU utilization on Kubernetes
  • Track GPU costs by team and project
  • View GPU inventory across multiple clouds
  • Audit AI workload spend for FinOps
  • Inspect GPU health and energy use
  • Find idle GPUs wasting money

Who it's for

  • ML infrastructure teams
  • DevOps engineers
  • FinOps teams
  • Researchers

Why use Neurox

  • It runs inside your own cluster, and the vendor says it has no remote access to your deployment or workload data.
  • Free monitoring of up to 64 GPUs suits personal, academic and light commercial setups.
  • Cost views by project and team help explain GPU spend.
  • One control plane can watch GPU clusters on several clouds and on-prem.
  • Setup is a Helm install with automatic hardware discovery.

Neurox features

  • Purpose-built GPU dashboards
  • Automatic discovery of GPU hardware
  • Multi-cluster and multi-cloud views
  • Cost reports by team, project, GPU type or owner
  • Per-GPU health, diagnostics and energy consumption
  • Data export and reporting for ROI measurement
  • Helm-based self-hosted deployment
  • Airgapped installs available
  • Identity provider setup for user authentication

Neurox integrations

  • Kubernetes
  • Helm
  • Azure AKS
  • NVIDIA GPU Operator
  • kube-prometheus-stack

How to get started with Neurox

  1. Prepare a Kubernetes cluster with at least one NVIDIA GPU node, cert-manager and ingress-nginx.
  2. Run the Helm install command to deploy a combined Neurox Control and Workload cluster.
  3. Configure an identity provider and open your Control Portal subdomain.
  4. Connect more GPU clusters; the agent discovers GPU hardware without extra configuration.
  5. Review utilization, workloads and cost reports, and export data for audits.

Neurox limitations

  • Only NVIDIA GPUs are supported at this time
  • Requires Kubernetes 1.29+ and Helm 3.8+, with about 12 CPUs, 24 GB RAM and 120 GB storage
  • Not open source; free use is capped at 64 GPUs
  • Scheduler, health alarms and federated multi-cloud are not yet released

Neurox FAQ

Is Neurox free?

Yes, for monitoring up to 64 GPUs. The vendor says this covers many personal, academic and light commercial uses.

How much does Neurox cost beyond 64 GPUs?

The pricing page does not list a price for larger deployments. It mentions source-available licensing options for enterprise customers, so contact the vendor.

Is Neurox open source?

No. The documentation states it is not open-source software, although it is free up to 64 GPUs.

What does Neurox need to run?

A Kubernetes 1.29+ cluster with at least one NVIDIA GPU node, Helm 3.8+, cert-manager, ingress-nginx, the NVIDIA GPU Operator and a Prometheus stack.

Does Neurox send my data to the vendor?

The docs say data leaves your cluster only for support and billing, and airgapped installs remove outbound traffic.

What are alternatives to Neurox?

Alternatives for GPU observability include NVIDIA DCGM with Grafana, Run:ai and Kubecost, which differ in focus. On Debuly, compare Weights & Biases, OnitsAI and KubeStellar Console.
