Happy

Open-source desktop and phone app that runs Claude, Codex and Grok coding agents together using your existing subscriptions.

What is Happy?

Happy is an MIT-licensed harness for running coding agents. The desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux brings Claude, Codex and Grok into one place, reuses the Claude Code, Codex and Grok sign-ins already on your machine, and needs no Happy account for model access. Each model keeps its native prompts and tools, and you can switch models without losing the transcript. Agents can hand work to subagents on any of the three models, message each other, run on schedules and keep going through a closed window or restart. Parallel work gets its own Git worktree on a separate branch, risky actions run inside an OS sandbox, and a phone app syncs the same sessions with end-to-end encryption. Teams can share one Happy Agent. The software is free; the only charge is voice in the phone app, with 20 free minutes per 30 days and a subscription for up to 5 hours, or no limit from Happy if you connect your own ElevenLabs agent. The original Happy CLI is now in maintenance mode.

Use cases

  • Run Claude, Codex and Grok agents in one app
  • Control coding sessions from your phone
  • Delegate work to subagents on any model
  • Run parallel tasks in separate Git worktrees
  • Talk to a coding agent by voice
  • Share agents and sessions across a team
  • Schedule messages and persistent bots

Who it's for

  • Developers
  • Claude Code users
  • Engineering teams
  • Open source enthusiasts

Why use Happy

  • Your existing model subscriptions are reused, so there is no separate Happy bill for model access.
  • Sessions persist across restarts, so long agent runs are not lost when a window closes.
  • The phone app lets you check or steer coding sessions away from your desk with encrypted sync.
  • An open MIT codebase means you can read, fork or self-host the relay.
  • Sandboxing and worktrees keep parallel agent work isolated from your main branch.

How to get started with Happy

  1. Download the Happy desktop app for macOS, Windows or Linux and open it.
  2. Happy launches its own agent runtime and reuses the Claude, Codex and Grok sign-ins already on the machine.
  3. Start a session, choose a model, and let agents work, handing tasks to subagents where needed.
  4. Pair the phone app to follow the same sessions, approve permission requests or use voice.
  5. Optionally deploy a remote agent or create a team so others can share projects and sessions.

Happy limitations

  • Voice is the only paid part, with 20 free minutes per 30 days
  • Voice sends audio and some session content to ElevenLabs
  • Model access requires your own Claude, Codex or Grok subscriptions
  • The original Happy CLI is in maintenance mode and gets only critical fixes

Happy FAQ

How much does Happy cost?

Happy costs nothing and uses the MIT license. Models are powered by your own Claude, Codex and Grok subscriptions. Only voice in the phone app is charged, and the docs do not list the voice subscription price.

Is there a free plan for Happy?

Yes, the whole app is free. Voice includes 20 free minutes every 30 days, then a subscription raises it to 5 hours per 30 days, or you can bring your own ElevenLabs agent for no limit from Happy.

Is Happy open source?

Yes. It is MIT licensed, and the docs say you can read it, fork it and ship your own build. The relay server can also be self-hosted.

Do I need a Happy account?

No. Happy does not need its own account for model access. It reuses the sign-ins you already have on your machine for the Claude Code, Codex and Grok CLIs.

Does Happy work on my phone?

Yes. The Happy mobile app, on iOS and Android, shows the same sessions with end-to-end encryption and push notifications, and the relay carries ciphertext only. It works with both the desktop app and the original CLI.

What are alternatives to Happy?

Alternatives for running coding agents include Claude Code itself, Conductor, Cursor, Zed and OpenCode. They differ in how many models they orchestrate and whether they offer a phone app.
