Open-source Python framework for building chat interfaces for LLM apps, now archived and no longer maintained.
DevSpecs
Local-first CLI that packs repo context into bounded task slices and keeps the thread of AI coding-agent work with your code.
What is DevSpecs?
DevSpecs is a command-line tool for keeping AI coding work bounded and recoverable. It indexes your repository into a local SQLite database, reading source, tests, docs, plans, ADRs, PRDs, commits and task records, so ds recent can show what an agent changed and where to pick up, ds map can outline system boundaries, and ds find can return packed context. For a defined goal, ds task creates a task workspace with checkpoints and decision gates, and ds apply prints the next one-slice prompt that you give to your own agent. DevSpecs is not an agent and makes no LLM calls; code and documents stay local, and the vendor says telemetry excludes paths, repo names and source. Repo-local adapter files from ds init expose $ds-task and /ds-task commands for Codex, Cursor, Claude and Windsurf. It sits beside Jira, Linear, GitHub Issues or Notion rather than replacing them. No pricing is stated publicly, and install is through Homebrew.
Use cases
- Recover context after an agent run
- Bound an agent task to one slice
- Pack relevant source and tests for a prompt
- Map system boundaries in a repo
- Write ADR, RFC and PRD drafts
- Coordinate parallel task lanes across repos
Who it's for
Why use DevSpecs
- Context stays in your repo and on your machine, with no cloud sync and no model calls.
- A smaller packed working set and stop condition helps keep agents from drifting in scope.
- Task artifacts are plain files that teams can version in Git, while each developer keeps a rebuildable local index.
- It works with whichever editor or coding agent you already use.
- Existing plans, ADRs and PRDs are searched in place without adopting a new spec process.
DevSpecs features
- ds recent recovers recent local work threads
- ds task creates bounded task workspaces with decision gates
- ds apply prints the next one-slice prompt
- ds find returns packed context with included and excluded files
- ds map identifies system boundaries from local evidence
- Local SQLite index that can be rebuilt
- Adapter files for Codex, Cursor, Claude and Windsurf
- ds compose drafts ADRs, RFCs and PRDs in the repo
- Experimental workspace commands for umbrella repos
- Quiet and JSON output safe for scripts
DevSpecs integrations
How to get started with DevSpecs
- Install the ds CLI with Homebrew and run ds init in a repository.
- Use ds recent when you return cold, or ds map and ds find to gather evidence.
- Run ds task with a bounded goal to create the task workspace and packed context.
- Run ds apply and give the printed prompt to your coding agent.
- Record the outcome with ds task checkpoint and add follow-up slices if needed.
DevSpecs limitations
- It is not an agent and does not execute the task; your own agent does the work
- ds adopt, for wrapping existing intent files, is still planned
- Workspace coordination across repos is experimental
- The first run indexes the repository, which can take time on large repos

DevSpecs FAQ
How much does DevSpecs cost?
No pricing or license is stated publicly; check devspecs.com for current terms.
Does DevSpecs call an LLM or upload my code?
No. The FAQ says the CLI indexes local artifacts and emits context for your existing agent, code and documents stay local, and telemetry excludes paths, repo names, document text and source code.
Is DevSpecs an AI agent?
No. ds task sets up the workspace and boundary, and ds apply outputs the next prompt for you to hand to your own editor, terminal or agent, which does the actual work.
Does DevSpecs replace Jira or Linear?
No. Keep your issue tracker for epics, stories and tasks. DevSpecs tracks the local AI work layer underneath.
Which coding agents work with DevSpecs?
ds init can write repo-local adapter files for Codex, Cursor, Claude and Windsurf that route back through ds task and ds apply.
What are alternatives to DevSpecs?
OpenSpec, Git history with detailed commit messages, and agent memory features in tools like Cursor or Claude Code cover parts of the same need.
