What is Replicate?

Replicate is a hosted platform for running machine learning models through an API. You call a model with a few lines of code, and the same API covers image, text, music and speech generation, image captioning and restoration. Community members have published thousands of open-source models, and the platform also hosts proprietary ones. You can fine-tune supported models, for example Flux, on your own images, or package a custom model with Cog, its open-source tool, and deploy it. Public models are billed by the time a request is processing, at a per-second rate that depends on the hardware, while some are billed per output image, per second of video or per token. For example, flux-1.1-pro is listed at $0.04 per output image. Private models run on dedicated hardware and you pay for setup and idle time as well as active time, except fast-booting fine-tunes. Enterprise plans add priority support, SLAs, higher GPU limits and volume discounts.

Use cases

  • Run open-source models from an API
  • Generate images from text prompts
  • Fine-tune an image model on your own photos
  • Deploy a custom model with Cog
  • Generate video, music and speech
  • Restore and upscale images
  • Scale model inference for production

Who it's for

  • Developers
  • ML engineers
  • AI product teams
  • Enterprises

Why use Replicate

  • You pay for processing time on public models, and setup and idle time on those are free.
  • Switching between models takes a change to the model name in your code, which makes testing different models easy.
  • Your own models can be packaged with Cog and deployed on the same platform.
  • Enterprise accounts get one contract covering 50,000+ models along with SLAs and indemnity coverage.

Replicate features

  • Hosted API for thousands of community and proprietary models
  • Per-second billing for public models on shared hardware
  • Per-output pricing for some models, such as per image or per token
  • Fine-tuning with your own data
  • Cog, an open-source tool for packaging custom models
  • Deployments with your own instances and request queue
  • Hardware choices from CPU to Nvidia T4, L40S, A100, H100 and H200 GPUs
  • Webhooks and streaming output
  • Enterprise options: SLAs, dedicated account manager and higher GPU limits

Replicate integrations

  • Cog
  • GitHub Actions
  • Next.js
  • Cloudflare
  • ComfyUI
  • Val Town

How to get started with Replicate

  1. Create an account and get an API token, then pick a model from the catalog.
  2. Call the model from Python, Node.js or plain HTTP with your input parameters.
  3. Check the estimate on the model page, since billing is either per second of compute or per output.
  4. Optionally fine-tune a model with your data, or push a custom model with Cog.
  5. Create a deployment when you need dedicated instances, a private queue or autoscaling control.

Replicate limitations

  • Public models share a hardware pool, so cold boots and scaling limits can occur
  • Private models bill for setup and idle time as well as active time
  • Some larger GPU capacity needs a committed spend contract
  • Costs vary by model, so estimates come from each model page

Replicate FAQ

How much does Replicate cost?

You pay for what you use. Public models are billed by run time on the hardware in use or by output, for example $0.04 per output image for flux-1.1-pro. Hardware ranges from $0.09 per hour for CPU (Small) to $5.49 per hour for an Nvidia H100.

Does Replicate have a free plan?

The pricing page describes pay-as-you-go billing and does not list a free plan.

How does billing work for private models?

Private models mostly run on dedicated hardware, so you pay for the time instances are online, including setup, idle and active time. Fast-booting fine-tunes are billed only while active.

Can I run my own model on Replicate?

Yes. You can package a custom model with Cog, the open-source tool, and deploy it on Replicate.

Does Replicate offer enterprise plans?

Yes. Enterprise offers 50,000+ models through one API and contract, priority support, SLAs, higher GPU limits, volume discounts and a dedicated account manager.

What are alternatives to Replicate?

Hugging Face, fal.ai, Together AI, Modal, Fireworks AI and Baseten offer related model hosting and inference.
