LM Studio
Desktop app for running open language models on your own computer, now with the Bionic agent, a local API and optional US-hosted cloud models.
What is LM Studio?
LM Studio is a desktop application for downloading and running open language models locally on macOS, Windows and Linux. You chat with models on your own hardware, ingest documents and use MCP servers through the interface, or serve several models and call them through an OpenAI-compatible API, with a CLI and Python and JavaScript SDKs for building apps. Models run on llama.cpp and, on Apple silicon, MLX, and data stays on your device when you use them locally. The newer Bionic agent adds help with documents and coding and can use local models, models on your other devices through LM Link, or optional US-hosted open-source models with zero data retention that draw on cloud credits. The Free plan costs $0 and covers local models. Bionic+ costs $20 USD / month and Pro costs $100 USD / month, and a Team plan and a custom Enterprise plan with SSO and admin controls are described for organizations.
