What is Hasura?

Hasura is a data access platform that turns connected databases and services into GraphQL and REST APIs with role-based authorization, so developers skip hand-writing a backend layer. Hasura Cloud supports Postgres plus sources such as MongoDB, Snowflake, BigQuery, SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle, and adds subscriptions, event triggers, query caching, read replicas and observability. The newer Hasura DDN (Data Delivery Network) uses declarative metadata, a schema registry and team governance, and its pricing does not rise with traffic. Hasura Cloud has three plans: a Free plan with no credit card, a pay-as-you-go Professional plan starting at $1.50 per active hour for a Postgres project, and an Enterprise plan with annual commitment and dedicated infrastructure. DDN offers a 30-day trial of its Base and Advanced plans. Hasura also makes PromptQL, a product aimed at giving AI the context of a business. Teams use it for app backends, data federation across databases and internal tools.

Use cases

  • Generate GraphQL APIs from a database
  • Expose REST endpoints over data
  • Federate data across several sources
  • Trigger events on data changes
  • Cache queries and add read replicas
  • Control API access by user role

Who it's for

  • Backend developers
  • Full-stack teams
  • Data platform teams
  • Enterprise API owners

Why use Hasura

  • Connecting a database yields a working API without writing resolvers by hand, which shortens the time to a first endpoint.
  • The Free cloud plan needs no credit card, so you can test a project before paying anything.
  • Pay-as-you-go billing on Professional means a low-traffic API only costs for the hours it is active.
  • DDN pricing is independent of traffic, so costs do not climb as request volume grows.
  • Role-based authorization, allow lists and SSO on Enterprise help meet security and compliance needs.
